EACC Member Spotlight: TyTek Industries - Design & Contract Manufacturing Serving Global Brands

By Susan Morgan

Last week’s EACC Newsletter included our Member Spotlight on TyTek Medical – as promised, this week we include Part 2 on the TyTek GroupTyTek Industries.

TyTek Industries was founded in 2001 when Chris Tyler, after several required relocations globally, decided to put down permanent roots in Cincinnati. He wanted the stability for his family and had grown quite fond of the Queen City.  Leveraging his worldwide contacts he was able to launch the company quickly and within a few months hired support staff.  Tytek Industries provides design and contract manufacturing services to a wide range of industries including consumer products, medical and rescue, automotive components and more. Because everything they do is custom, two quick examples of the kinds of things they design and deliver will help illustrate:

  • The Kohler Company reached out to TyTek Industries a number of years ago for help with a pull-down kitchen faucet problem.  Together they designed a unique solution that is both extremely functional and befitting Kohler’s reputation for precision and quality, while avoiding any existing patents.  To this day TyTek continues to provide contract manufacturing services to Kohler.

  • A second example, demonstrating the breadth of the services they provide is really quite different. Amazon has opened its first brick and mortar store outside of the U.S.A. (it’s in the UK) and is using “Just Walk Out” technology. This means customers simply scan a smart phone QR code to open the store’s doors and their purchases will then be tracked using ceiling cameras and shelf weight sensors. Within these sensors lies a hidden mechanism called a load cell. When  the shopper is finished, they simply “walk out”.  Their on-file credit card is billed and a receipt is emailed. How’s that for a time saver? This technology is helping TyTek to future proof their business and that of their clients. They provide the highly sensitive load cells (see image) which convert force into a measurable electrical output, essentially measuring weight, throughout the store; enabling the entire experience. (You might recognize this technology if you have used self-check out at your local grocery or airport baggage check-in scales).

TyTek’s global connections to high-quality providers combined with their team of knowledgeable and experienced designers, have contributed to their success and long-standing reputation for quality.

These are just two examples of the services TyTek Industries provides to clients worldwide, but I hope they provide a glimpse into the scope of what they do.

As our time together came to a close I asked, as I always do, what benefits the TyTek Group have received from being a longtime EACC member. Chris responded quickly … he mentioned the value in attending the workshops/webinars, the social contacts he has made through events like the Beaujolais Nouveau Première (of which TyTek sponsored a few years ago) and how he really enjoys the Company Briefings, particularly the one hosted at Festo.  But probably MOST beneficial of all… he has acquired new business as a direct result of his EACC connection.
