EACC Behind the Scenes: Manufacturing Executives Tour University of Cincinnati 1819 Innovation Hub

The recently completed Voice of the Customer study highlighted a desire for peer engagement among the EACC’s manufacturing members, as well as a desire for more relevant programming at it relates to business needs in a European-American context . With this feedback in mind, the EACC, in partnership with the University of Cincinnati and event co-sponsor Wells Fargo Advisors, hosted manufacturing executives from the EACC network for a tour of and briefing on the University of Cincinnati 1819 Innovation Hub. The January 22 event also included a presentation on the University of Cincinnati’s International Co-Op Program

Roughly twenty manufacturing top executives were on hand to hear from David Adams, Chief Innovation Officer at UC and CEO of the UC Research Institute; Dr. Gigi Escoe, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies, and Interim Dean of the Division of Experience-Based Learning and Career Education; and Dr. Gayle Elliot, who runs the International Co-Op Program.

The University of Cincinnati 1819 Innovation Hub hosted its grand opening in October 2018 and features a 12,000-square-foot prototyping and microfactory facility, collaboration spaces, the Venture Lab, and corporate innovation spaces for corporate and community partners.

For its part, the University’s International Co-Op Program allows students to learn a second language and gain international experience through an overseas co-op assignment. Employer benefits include training costs paid by UC (language and technical/professional).

The EACC would like to thank the University of Cincinnati 1819 Innovation Hub and Tony Almaguer, Director of Outreach, for hosting and Wells Fargo Advisors for co-sponsoring the event. We also thank David Adams, Vice Provost Escoe, and Dr. Elliot for the opportunity to showcase the 1819 Innovation Hub and the International Co-op Program to EACC members. And a special thanks to Honorary Consul of Germany Martin Wilhelmy for the idea behind the event and for helping to make it happen.
