On Wednesday, February 19th the EACC hosted a Welcome Reception for companies that had joined the organization over the past year. In conjunction with the Welcome Reception, the EACC was honored to host the installation ceremony for the new Honorary Consul of France Nelly Bonniol, and the evening marked the perfect occasion to also recognize and thank outgoing Honorary Consul of France Anne Cappel for her years of consular service.
Held in the Continental Ballroom at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, the evening kicked off with networking among new EACC members, EACC primary representatives at member companies, prospective members, members of the Cincinnati region’s French Community, and invited guests. We were particularly honored to have the Consul General of France in Chicago, Guillaume Lacroix, in attendance, as well as the honorary consuls here in the region representing Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy (Consular Correspondent), and the Netherlands.
As you may have heard, the EACC is working with a number of partner organizations to tell Cincinnati’s story in Europe this fall through the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s European tour (click here to learn more). We were delighted to have Louis Langrée, Music Director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, in attendance this past Wednesday night.
EACC Board President Yannick Schilly offered brief opening remarks noting that the EACC is a powerful platform for business networking and reminding guests of the long-standing ties between France and the EACC. Before introducing Consul General Lacroix, he asked guests to observe a moment of silence to mark the recent passing of two friends and pillars of the EACC from its earliest days, Paul Bergé and Michael Daly.
Consul General Lacroix thanked the EACC for hosting this event and for its diligent work to promote and support stronger trade ties between the Cincinnati region and France and Europe, noting the vast contributions to jobs and incomes such relationships foster on both sides of the Atlantic. He thanked Anne Cappel for her 20+ years of service as Honorary Consul of France, and paid tribute to her tireless dedication. Anne expressed her appreciation at having the opportunity to serve and noted many of the important accomplishments of her tenure (including the first opportunity for French citizens to directly vote in the French Presidential elections!). Then Consul General Lacroix introduced Nelly Bonniol, who is taking on the role of Honorary Consul, saying that her love for France and America – as well as her energy and enthusiasm – makes her a perfect fit for the position. Nelly thanked the Consul General and the Government of France for this opportunity to serve and thanked her family and the French community for their support. Yannick Schilly closed the formal portion of the evening by noting how happy the EACC was that Nelly had also taken on the role of Chair of the EACC’s French American Business Alliance (FABA) committee, and that he looked forward to great things from FABA.
Of course, the evening would not have been possible without the generous support of our event sponsors. The EACC would like to extend a big thank you to Bannockburn Global Forex LLC, the City of Mason, Fifth Third Bank, Frost Brown Todd LLC, and Gilman Partners.
