EACC Behind the Scenes - August 2018

What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?

As you know, the EACC is implementing a three-pronged strategy to promote Workforce Development – we will Celebrate EACC members making significant contributions to the development of a sustainable and skilled workforce for our region; we will Connect our members to resources and programs that can support their efforts to attract, train, and retain the skilled workers they need; and we will Advocate for positive attitudes towards careers in manufacturing.  In this vein, we are working with Partners for a Competitive Workforce to promote National Manufacturing Day/Month in October and also the “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing” video competition.

National Manufacturing Day takes place this year on October 5.  This initiative of the Manufacturing Institute and the National Association of Manufacturers is intended to inspire the next generation of manufacturers.  I’m so happy to report that in 2018, 40 companies from our region have registered to partcpate in Manufacturing Day, including the following EACC members: Balluff, Deceuninck NA, Definity Partners, Festo, General Tool Corporation, Krauss-Maffei, Meyer Tool, Mubea, Pilot Chemical, Rhinestahl, Safran Landing Systems, and VEGA Americas.  I hope that we can get even more EACC members to sign up next year!

Partners for a Competitive Workforce is also the organizer for the local “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” video contest.  Teams of middle school students and their teacher coaches are given video equipment and some basic training in video production, then are paired with a local manufacturer to create a short video profile of their manufacturing partner to answer the question ”What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?”  The videos are posted on the internet for public voting, and the winners are recognized at a public ceremony.  (To see the videos from last year, click here.) This year a number of EACC members are participating, including Balluff, Mubea, Safran Landing Systems, and Rhinestahl.  And I will be an informal coach for a number of our teams, working with companies and schools to keep the process on track.

If your EACC member company is working on initiatives like this, be sure to let us know so we can celebrate your efforts.  If you know of other resources like Partners for a Competitive Workforce that EACC members should connect to, let us know!  And if you have ideas on how we can collectively raise our voices and advocate for careers in manufacturing, send them along!

Meet Beaujolais Nouveau Premiere Event Coordinator Mary Katherine Taulbee

Hello EACC!

My name is Mary Katherine and I am the Event Coordinator for the upcoming Beaujolais Nouveau celebration in November! I am so excited to be working with such an amazing group on such an exciting event. I love Cincinnati, and although I am not a native of the city, I am excited to contribute in this way! I hope to bring some new vendors to our silent auction, be a place to go if you have questions about the event, and successfully celebrate the Beaujolais this year.

A little about myself: I was born in the big city of Kettering, Ohio and moved to Cincinnati in time to go to Sycamore High School. I graduated from Ohio University (OU Oh Yeah!) in 2015 and have been coordinating events professionally in Cincinnati since! I have great passion for a well organized event, and I am very excited about meeting everyone at Beaujolais Nouveau. See you there!
